SUMMARY:The Right way to be Sustainable
DESCRIPTION:How frustrated are you with “Sustainability”? \nIn an industry where owners are stretched to rationalize anyone on staff who is not directly accountable for manufacturing revenue\, the pressure from governments and clients to be more environmentally sustainable are becoming overwhelming in tough economic times. We all want to do what’s right — but the focus has become fragmented. \nThe DIA has put together a unique panel consisting of Holly Denson-Camp\, Environmental Co-ordinator\, Mitchell Press; Jeff Crawford\, VP Sustainability\, Sustana; and Tova Davidson\, Executive Director\, Strategy & Governance\, Sustainable Waterloo. This panel will guide you through the definition of “Sustainable”\, what steps are “need to do” and what steps are “nice to do”\, what measurement tools are available\, how rebates work\, and more. \nWant to make sure you’re not going down the “greenwashing” road — join us for this session? \nOur April meeting will once again be a hybrid format — either in person\, with lunch included\, or Zoom in. \nIn Person Location: HP Lobby Meeting room – 5150 Spectrum Way\, 12:00noon to 1:45pm \nTo register for in-person\, reply to this email \nZOOM: 12:30 – 1:30 ET \nTo register for Zoom – click the link below: \n https://hp.zoom.com/webinar/register/WN_6NXu_EisR7SOdIkoy11XIg

SUMMARY:What is Your Exit Strategy? ... How to Have a Happy Landing
DESCRIPTION:Almost 60% of Canada’s small and mid-sized business owners are aged 50 or older\, nearly double the proportion of the overall workforce. The printing industry is no exception.\nFour out of 10 entrepreneurs in Canada are likely to leave their businesses within the next five years\, up from one in three in the mid-2000s\, our study also found.\nMore than half of these entrepreneurs intend to sell or transfer their business to someone outside their family. A quarter of them see a family succession in the cards\, while just over one in five expects to wind down the business and sell its assets.\nKey to the sale of any business is it’s strength – both financially and staff. Is succession planning part of your corporate culture? Is cross-training a key to your operational strategy?\nWith staff as well as owners looking to exit\, it’s time to ensure that everyone has a happy landing!\nThe DIA has put together a unique panel – moderated by Stephen Longmire\, Past President of the DIA and moderator extraordinaire. Stephen is also the National Sales Manager of Sydney Stone – supplier of print finishing equipment\, parts and service.\nPanelists are:\nGerald Chang\, Managing Partner\, Summit Labels\, Vancouver\nSteve Cussons\, President\, MiniGiants\, Toronto\nSteve Falk\, President\, Prime Imaging\nGord Griffiths\, CEO and President\, Connecting For Results\, Toronto\nMarg Macleod\, President\, IBEC Consulting

SUMMARY:Transitioning from Offset to Inkjet - an update
DESCRIPTION:The DIA has gathered a panel for our upcoming Webinar that will address the status of Inkjet and the transition from Offset\, as the technology has evolved and there are more adopters. \nCommercial Offset is the last bastion where inkjet is really starting to take hold in the print world. Steady advances in print quality\, greater flexibility with stock size\, stock finishes – coated\, uncoated\, and weight – up to 9pt board\, have driven the acceptance of Inkjet. \nForecasts predict a 40% drop in demand for printed marketing material by 2024. While lithography is still a viable business\, it’s also a business looking at an incredible decline in demand. If you want to be nicely profitable – offset is less atrractive as the space to be in. \nWe have the 2 leading vendors of inkjet – Canon & HP\, along with 2 printers in different market sectors – Transcontinental PreMedia and DM\, and Webcom – now part of Marquis Books — the first major installation of inkjet in Canada. \nInkjet is no longer “if” you’re going to transition over – it’s when. Take the opportunity to hear what experts on both sides – seller & buyer\, have to say about their experiences. How was the transition? Are they glad they made the move? What’s the ROI like? Will they continue to invest in Inkjet? \nTo register – click on this link or paste it into your browser: https://hp.zoom.com/webinar/register/WN_pSIpqPFSRPu_y4Dy7koGeg

SUMMARY:Bringing Print to Life with Embellishment
DESCRIPTION:Embellishment technology has given printers a new tool and opportunity for differentiation – advising customers on how to use the myriad of options available through digital finishing including foiling\, diecutting\, embossing\, and raised UV. \nWhile still evolving\, digital embellishment has gained momentum and the adapters have either made it soar\, or dropped it. \nJoin the panel the DIA has put together for an informative discussion of where the market is now; what became of the players who dropped out; how does the technology perform in a manufacturing environment; who/what is the market – and more. \nIf you’re not already utilizing this technology – is it an affordable option for growing business? If you are using it — what could you be doing better? \nIn addition to the Panel discussion on Embellishments\, there will be a special announcement for DIA Members — \nTrinet Global Logistics to offer special discounts to DIA members during these uncertain times \nMajor supply-chain issues are taking place right now across our industry – and more chaos is on the horizon. Supply-chain bottlenecks are squeezing Canadian businesses large and small at the worst possible time. Plus\, rising demand for packaging\, catalogues and printed books during the pandemic has drastically reduced paper supplies across North America. \nNow\, with shipping costs also increasing almost every week for printers\, equipment manufacturers and consumables’ suppliers alike\, Trinet Global Logistcs (a DIA Platinum-Level Sponsor) has created a unique discount offer for all Digital Imaging Association members. In fact\, Trinet’s proven approach to transportation solutions will be a welcome opportunity to reduce these types of expenses\, allowing you to spend more time on building sales. \nA must-attend webinar \nWarren McCaffrey\, President & CEO of Trinet\, is eager to present a 5-minute overview of these helpful services during the DIA’s Bringing Print to Life with Embellishments webinar Wednesday\, January 19 at 12:30 pm (Eastern Standard Time). \nTo register click on the link below: \nhttps://hp.zoom.com/webinar/register/WN_cEosAFKLSVSyY0oQlD2Izw

SUMMARY:What is the Roadmap for Conferences and Trade Shows?
DESCRIPTION:How will the learning continue? Hear what Dscoop and DRUPA think! \nTrade shows and Conferences pretty much stopped with the Covid-19 pandemic. Many organizations tried virtual meetings\, but attendee engagement was generally poor. Interestingly\, reports are that many companies’ sales were unaffected by their absence from trade shows and Conferences\, and in fact they saved money by not participating. Does this experience mean Conferences and Trade Shows will die off? \nCompanies can coast if they have good momentum and especially if their competition also coasts. However\, when competitors start pedaling again\, companies that ignore trade shows or Conferences will fall behind. \nPeter van Teeseling\nCOO @Dscoop\nPeter has seen magazines launch in print\, shift to digital\, and love print again. He has witnessed the massive success of direct mail campaigns\, email campaigns\, and the power of combining the two. He started in traditional print and moved into digital asset management and web-based solutions related to offset and digital print. Yes\, with more than 20 years in printing\, Peter has experienced the industry’s many transformations first-hand. It’s one of the many valued qualities he brings to the Dscoop community\, having been part of the leadership team since 2011. As Regional Director\, Peter helped establish Dscoop in Europe\, the Middle East\, and Africa\, and supported the volunteer leadership building the community’s membership and culture that it is known for today. Since 2016\, Peter has supported the Dscoop team with all things operational. Peter lives in The Netherlands with his wife and three sons. He loves traveling with his family.\nphoto of MC Elias – Information Resource \nMC Elias – Information Resource\nDscoop Community Success Manager for the Americas @Dscoop\nMC brings four years of non-profit experience to the Dscoop team\, where she managed highly diverse and inclusive communities. She thrives by empowering others to achieve their goals and by creating meaningful relationships. Having once planned an event for 550 people on a budget of $200 and two large cakes\, she describes herself as solution-oriented\, creative and resourceful. MC has a bachelor’s degree from George Mason University in Sociology and a minor in Spanish (a small homage to her Peruvian roots). MC is currently taking a certification course from the University of South Florida on Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace. In her free time\, MC enjoys dance workout classes\, hiking and painting\, and is an avid animal lover. She has recently found a strong passion for the outdoors and took her first semi-solo camping trip. \nSabine Geldermann\nProject Director Print Technologies @DRUPA\nSabine Geldermann entered the international trade fair business in 1992 after graduating from Johannes-Gutenberg-University Mainz (Department of Translation\, Linguistics and Cultural Studies with a focus on Business Administration) and an Erasmus exchange semester abroad at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ISTI-Cooremans). She started her professional career at leading international trade fair organizers such as Blenheim International\, Miller Freeman and Reed Exhibitions. During her career she has been responsible for various international trade fairs with a dedicated focus on the strategic development and further internationalization. Before joining Messe Düsseldorf in 2013 as Director of drupa and Global Head Print Technologies\, she was a member of the divisional management of the largest technical scientific network for engineers\, the VDI\, Verein Deutscher Ingenieure e.V. (Association for German Engineers). The long-term experiences in the international trade fair business\, link
